"treatment of our mother"

About: Russells Hall Hospital

My mother has been in hospital now for 11 days treated for cancer Thursday we was told we would have the results of the tests she had under taken no later than Friday at six. Today Tuesday we were all in the hospital after being told over the weekend to be at my mothers side for the over all outcome of the results that we were supposed to have on Friday half past three we were at my mothers bedside I myself travelled 1 1/2 hours each way and carrying out 8 hours work re arranging work that I had got booked in for that day and leaving my house in Sedgley at 3:15 this morning to make sure I was in the hospital on time to meet my two brothers who both had taken part days holiday to be with our mother to be told by the cancer doctors under study they were running late on their clinic and would not be able to make it so no results were given and after a weekend of worry for all the family we are now being told she will get the results on Thursday I find this very un professional on the part of the doctor who originally called the meeting not even to show their presence do they realise they are playing with peoples lives? any person with a job to do would stay and for fill the obligation to the person they are representing next stop ombudsman! May I say the staff on the wards are second to none the best you could wish for. Regards a very unhappy son with two unhappy brothers Alan

Thank you, Alan, for taking the time to give us your feedback about your mum’s stay at our hospital. We would like to assure you that we take all comments seriously and act upon them as part of our on-going commitment to patient experience. We would like to apologise that your mum had to wait longer than you expected for her test results, and for the inconvenience and stress this has caused. We do appreciate what a very worrying time this is. Unfortunately, there are times when a consultant’s clinic overrun and this sometimes means that meetings arranged with inpatients and their families need to be rearranged. Diagnoses are usually given by the consultant responsible for the patient’s care, and this often happens in an outpatient clinic appointment. If you have concerns about any other aspects of your mother’s treatment, please don’t hesitate to contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service (PALS) on 0800 073 0510.
