"macmillan care nil chemo and radio 10/10"

About: Lincoln County Hospital

I was diagnosed with breast cancer in December 2013 and was immediately allocated a Macmillan nurse. Obviously my husband and I were stunned at the news and the first thing the nurse said was "if you are going to have cancer then breast cancer is the best one to have as there has been lots of research". Although this was supposed to be reassuring it wasn't what I wanted to hear at that moment. The nurse then went on to say that there would be a year of hanging about in clinics while I underwent treatment. I had the operation then chemo and radiotherapy followed by herceptin which all went well but I never saw the Macmillan nurse again. They did not contact me once during my treatment and although I realise I wasn't their only patient I think that it would have been nice for them to at least get in touch after my op and overall was very disappointed in the care (none) that I received from the service. I would, however, like to say that I only have high praise for the chemo nurses and radiographers who were all wonderful. Also the surgeon and oncologists were excellent.
