About: Dumfries & Galloway Royal Infirmary / Urology

(as the patient),

I had my tape inserted on sep 2013 and after the procedure I never felt right. I had urine infections one after the other and numerous antibiotics I asked for tape to be removed so they sent me for another op and told me they could only release it on one side but it didn't help. still same symptoms so sent me for scan and it showed I had a bladder stone so brought me in for another op and I asked for tape to be removed at same time. after op they said they couldn't remove tape as it was in my bladder. been referred to Glasgow hospital to get it removed but nearly a year later still waiting still same symptoms and on a permanent antibiotic. I wasn't informed of pros and cons.

I was very sorry to read of your experience and the on-going problems you have with the bladder tape.

Every patient is treated as an individual and the on-going after care of a patient with these tapes are unique to each persons specific clinical condition e.g. previous bladder surgery, additional bladder problems. I am sorry but with the limited information I have available I am unable to specifically respond to your concerns or determine why there is delay in the appointment from Glasgow.

NHS Dumfries & Galloway take all concerns and complaints seriously. This unfortunate issue is obviously causing you worry and discomfort, I would like to be able to direct you to the appropriate specialist Urology team to explore the issues you raised more effectively. I was seen by a specialist in Glasgow in Jan and had my previous op assement in march and was told I would be in and sorted before I went in holiday in may I had to get an antibiotic to take on holiday with me as I had another infection before I was due to go when I came back.

My docs surgery got in touch with Glasgow and told the hold up was because they were transferring to the new hospital. My doc has put me on a permanent antibiotic until such times I'm dealt with but I am sore and feel tired all the time just want back to normality as it limits things I can do and also leaking and having accidents.

Dear Scottsmum

This ongoing problem is obviously causing you great distress and affecting your quality of life. I note your GP has you on long term antibiotic therapy and I therefore has good insight in to the Urology Consultants future treatment plan for you.

Your GP is the best person in a position to contact the hospital on your behalf to ascertain what the delay in the Glasgow appointment is. The GP may also be able to determine if additional support with the Incontinence Nursing Service would be beneficial to help you through this difficult time.

Will be seeing my doctor tommorow will ask him to see if he can get an idea what's happening as I feel as I have another infection again despite being on antibiotics
