"Wonderful clinical staff but short-staffed"

About: Bradford Royal Infirmary

This review and the ratings I have given relate to the A&E dept only. [Please read my separate reviews on the Doctors / Ward 27 / Ward 28 / the Porters] Arrived on stretcher at Ambulance Entrance at 3:50pm, nurse given all details by the Ambulance crew, who then left. Half an hour later I was asked if I had been registered at the front desk; clearly not as I had not left the stretcher situated 2 feet away from the nurse and the computer that they were stood at. Not their fault though as they were clearly run off their feet. The nurse seemed to be the only one present given their colleagues were tied up with other patients. Despite those pressures they were coping extremely well in a difficult situation. The doctors in A&E quickly recognised that the albeit serious injuries I had sustained had more of an effect/impact on me because of my pre-existing disability (as opposed to someone not disabled), and that I was completely immobilised. They carried out all reasonable assessments as quickly as possible and I was then admitted to Ward 27, at 8:00pm that same night. During my time in A&E a different doctor dealt with an extremely drunk patient with the utmost care and professionalism. Thank you to the two doctors who saw me in A&E and thank you for seeing me as a complete human being, recognising my unusual situation and treating me as a person with individual needs rather than a patient with multiple fractures. This was certainly different to the treatment/handling I received from doctors once admitted (more on which in a separate review).

This is great feedback thank you. I am particularly pleased with your comment about being treated as a complete human being with individual needs rather than a patient with multiple fractures. Your comments will be used to learn lessons in other areas where we can improve. They will also be shared with the team as a recognition of their great work, thank you.
