My mother suffered with a subarachnoid haemorrhage in June 2015; we visited the advanced nurse at our surgery and she immediately referred us to the assessment unit at Derby Royal. They did the first scan to my mum where they discovered the bleeding and sent her at QMC with an ambulance. The staff were amazing all the way through. We were put in D10 that day and they did the second scan that evening. Due to my mum's language barrier, the staff were kind enough to agree to let me stay over with her. The next morning the Radiologist came to us early in the morning and explained everything. Even though it was upsetting to get the news that she had to undergo surgery, everyone was very understanding. She had endovascular coiling for two aneurysms and it all went smoothly.
I will be internally grateful to the staff who where with my mum while she was having the procedure; they were all very kind to both myself and my mum and they did a great job!
After the operation, we stayed at NSPU for about 36 hours; the nurses were very attentive and kind with us. We cannot praise them enough! ! They let me stay with her, as I was translating in case she needed me, and I am aware that it's not common practice.
We then moved to D10 where she stayed in for another 6 days; the care she received was good and she is very thankful for everything that they've done for her.
There were times that the ward was understaffed but even then, from my experience, we were not over-looked.
The only issue that my mum complaint at times was the noise in the ward, especially when she was in pain. Understandably, it's a busy ward and some things need to happen on time (food, cleaning etc).
Bottom line is that everyone was amazing! ! Keep up the good work: )
Thank You! ! !
"Keep up the good work"
