"Lack of care in emergency"

About: Royal Gwent Hospital

(as a relative),

On Saturday an ambulance was called to take my mother to the hospital with a bleeding leg, as she is on warfarin she need attention and a Tetinus Injection. When we arrived at the hospital she was seen to quite quickly but then we were left hanging around on a hospital trolley in a side ward in E&A. The male nurse who attended my mother kept going from person to person and left her there with fluid dripping from her leg as she suffers with chronic fluid retention.

I was left to mop and wipe up the fluid from her trolley to try and make her more comfortable. When I asked the male nurse how long he was going to be he passed my mum onto someone else. Within 10 minutes my mum was seen, to her leg dressed and I then took her home as she was quite distressed by this time as she is 88 years old.

All I can say is the individual I mentioned certainly needs a course in bedside manner and how to speak to patients. We were left there with no information on when she was going to be seen to until I asked him. He just gave me a leaflet on what my mum suffers with which I didn't need as I already knew what her condition was.
