I'd been in and out of hospital for a while then was managed by district nurses, back in hospital and now I'm in the hospice. I can't fault any of my care. The support in hospital is great considering the resources. District nurses were great.
I was transferred to the hospice last Friday and it is another level - I've gone from being a pauper to a princess! When I arrived I hadn't had a proper wash for 5 days or been able to wash my hair as I have a pump and was told in hospital that I couldn't have a bath. When I arrived here they said 'of course you can have a bath', my hair was washed and I had a haircut. When my family came to visit me later I was a different person.
I was watching the nurses earlier working with a lady in my room and everything was done so lovingly and patiently - it was like a friend doing something for another friend.
I have never felt like a number here, it's homely and safe. My concerns are listened to; there is a lovely chef who has been helping to get my portions right so I'm not overwhelmed at mealtimes.
You do not lose your dignity here at all
