"The staff of the AMU went above and beyond to save..."

About: George Eliot Hospital - Acute Services

My stepfather was admitted to the AMU on the 03/06/2015. On the 04/06/2015, his BP dropped dangerously. His condition was life threatening. Staff at all levels worked together to prevent a full arrest, I believe he would not be here now without their professionalism. It took around five hours of hard, intensive work to stabilise him. The staff protected him and maintained his dignity throughout. I was deeply impressed by their dedication and their compassion, not just to him, but to me. They managed to continue to run the ward safely while providing a high level of care to him and keeping me informed, fully involving us both (where possible) and even demonstrated concern for anything I might need. A junior doctor stayed for around three hours after they were due to finish their shift. Medical and surgical teams worked in conjunction with the nursing team (which includes the HCAs, who must not be forgotten) to provide excellent care. It was difficult to watch, but they made it bearable and saved the life of someone I care about. The staff I encountered were exceptional. If I could, I would thank every single one. These people are a credit to the hospital.
