I had to attend this new unit for a colonoscopy this week, my last one was 3 years ago in the main hospital. I thought second time round this would be easier but was not as I had a long wait before I went in which didn't help, but I did learn later that a very busy morning had led to the delays.
I must say that the new unit is really nice. I was called in by the nurse who was assigned to me and she was really lovely and tried her best to put me at ease. Eventually after being prepped it was my turn for the procedure, still feeling very anxious but I must say that the Bowel Cancer Screening team were all so nice.
I think the prep beforehand is worse than the actual colonoscopy, ok it is a bit uncomfortable but sedation and pain relief is there for you. I just want to say a special thank-you to the doctor Mr Martyn Carter, my nurse Vicky, Natalie and I'm afraid I can't remember the name of the other nurse.
Also a thank-you to the nurse for the very welcome cup of coffee and biscuits after, it was well appreciated. Well, that's it hopefully for another 3 years. Will I still be as anxious? Probably! See you all in 3 years time. Many thanks
