This evening I attended the RAH hospital to see my 8 day old child who at the moment is in the Special Care Baby Unit (SCBU). They been moved from ICU into the High Dependency Unit.
I entered the unit with my partner at 10: 30pm We entered a dark room with 4 children init 3 of which are in incubators and one in a open cot. Not one member of staff was present in the room. we walked up to my child's incubator and found they were laying in their own sick, which quite frankly is not on.
After we got a staff member into help change the sheets we got asked if we were comfortable doing a nappy change which we said we were the staff nurse left the room and left us to it but told us she was outside if we need her. After my I took the nappy off my child, they pee'd which will happen. I then left my partner with them and went to find the staff nurse to help change the sheets again she was nowhere to be found.
I then found another staff member who was in my opinion rude and covering her and her colleagues back after the incident with the sick and now this. My partner was left in tears and I was left unanswered and angry at the level of care that has been provided to my child. I no longer feel at ease leaving them there overnight which in my books is not on and not how you should feel leaving any family member 8 days old or 80 years old in the care of qualified staff.
