"Getting care a care home instead of own home"

About: Allerdale adult social services

(as a relative),

My father had a severe stroke and is now left side paralysed. He and Mum and the family all knew that he would have a better life in a care home and that neither he nor Mum would cope with him at home having carers coming in. Social Services did calculations and said care at home would cost Social Services MORE than care in a care home. In spite of all this Social Services decided Dad had to have care at home! We argued with them and managed to get them to reverse their decision. Dad is at last settled in a nice care home, is getting involved in interviewing for staff, and has people to help him at very short notice if he needs help. He has a decent quality of life and is making a new life for himself and making friends with the staff and other residents. My point is social care seem to try to force care at home even where it isn't appropriate for an individual or a family. Sadly I even know of one poor woman who was paralysed and had dementia and was forced to live alone at home.
