"Ophthalmology appointment"

About: Essex County Hospital

I was referred to Essex county by my optician via my GP to investigate possible damage to my retina. My appointment came through very quickly and I was pre-advised of the time and date in advance by a telephone call from a friendly member of the hospital staff and received the written confirmation by post the following day. When I turned up for my appointment which was at 6pm the receptionist was helpful in directing me to the appropriate department. When I arrived at Opthalmology a nurse tended me straight away and took me to have eye drops inserted prior to my examination. They were very reassuring and explained exactly what the procedure would in valve which put me at ease especially as I have a slight phobia of hospitals. The consultant saw me very shortly after my arrival and again was very friendly and kept me informed all along the procedure taking time to listen to my questions and taking note of past comments made by opticians in the past. Fortunately after the examination I was assured that the problem was less serious than it was thought and was given advice as to what to do if any described symptoms should occur. Overall it was a relaxed visit helped by the very friendly and caring staff, they are to be commended for the quality of service provided to me.
