"The doctor who treated my daughter ..."

About: King George Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

The doctor who treated my daughter appeared new to the job but was very polite and caring. The nurses in ash ward were cheerful and helpful.

What could be improved

The hospitals cleanlines definitely needs to be improved. Customer service definitely needs improvement. My daughter was in the medical assessment unit for the 1st night of her stay and was being treated for a viral infection. The next morning when I went to visit her besides her hospital gown from the day before was still lying on the chair as well as her wet towel, I saw remains of the breakfast still on her table - crumbs from her toast and some jam. I complained to the doctor and raised my concerns about this. He spoke to the sister in charge who came to speak to me. I was not at all impressed with the way she handled the complaint - her tone and body language indicated that she was on the defensive. In fact she shocked me when she said ' I'm sorry but your daughter is not an old woman, she is a young girl and she can clean the table herself' - did she honestly expect a patient to get up and start cleaning her own surroundings? I was actually disgusted with the way the complaint was handled. That was not all - my daughter was not given any water because the white board to the left of her bed had another patients name on it and it stated 'nil by mouth' which the nureses assumed was my daughter, and she would have not have been given any breakfast if she had not heard one of the nurses telling the other one that 'this patient is nil by mouth and corrected her. The sister in charge did not think it was a big deal that my daughter had not been given any water for what she calculated to be about half an hour. Absolutely atrocious behaviour from a sister in charge - what a bad example to the junior staff.
