I was suffering with severe menstrual cramps and was in a lot of pain. I spoke to a pharmacist who gave me painkillers but they weren’t having any effect. The pain was getting worse and worse to the point of being unbearable. It was a Saturday night and I just didn’t know what to do apart from go to A&E, but the thought of having to leave the house and wait in pain to be seen seemed even worse.
I googled treatment of cramps and discovered that a medication that my doctor had previously prescribed for a different symptom could be effective. I had already taken the medication from the pharmacist and was concerned that I couldn’t mix the two. My partner suggested I call NHS24 to check and I’m so pleased I did.
As soon as I got through to Kevin I burst into tears. He was so lovely and after a minute or two I handed the phone over to my partner who answered all the questions. Within half an hour, a nurse called Sally called back and went over all my symptoms and medication. She confirmed that I could take both types of medication together along with the addition of paracetamol. I followed her advice and felt soooooooo much better within the hour. I am so pleased we have a service like NHS 24 as my other options would have been a night in agony or going to A&E.
Thank you Kevin and Sally. I ended up sleeping like a log!
