"Knee Surgery"

About: Royal Derby Hospital

I was in the day case ward at Derby for minor knee surgery early May (meniscus damage for me, though there was a spectrum of people and problems that day and, I guess every other). It has to be close to impossible to blend attention to detail with care and understanding for each patient. Todays' checks and balances don't just naturally align with treating people as individuals. Somehow, though, you all at the day case unit at the Royal Derby did both of those things. You made that seem simple. - I'll bet it's not. Everyone worked together with no apparent gaps - none - not one. A seriously smooth process that left me with the feeling that you knew exactly what to do and say and exactly when to do it - and, you know what ? - I felt like it was all done for me. How you did this for everyone else as well at the same time is for me at least, pretty much beyond comprehension. I've always thought that working in the medical world might be thankless in at least that real success is defined by non-repeat customers. As a non-medic, I think perhaps my own operation was successful, which could bias my comments, but stripping bias out to lay bare pure objectivity, I actually can't think of one single thing that you could have done to offset the fact that I was in hospital and would have preferred to be somewhere else. I think you are all magnificent people who are dedicated to helping people as much as you possibly can. It is clear that is exactly what you want to do. It's clear that is what makes you tick. You did it for me. Thank you. / John.

Many thanks for your kind comments regarding our Orthopaedics Department. Our staff strive to provide a high standard of care to all our patients and it is always nice to receive positive feedback to reassure the staff that their efforts have not been in vain. I will certainly ensure that your comments are shared with the relevant staff as we are sure they also will be most appreciative. Many thanks, once again, for taking the time to provide us with this important information and may we take this opportunity to wish you our very best wishes for the future. Kind regards The Patient Experience Team for Derby Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
