"Excellent same day Urology assessment. Thank-you..."

About: Leicester General Hospital

After several trips to see my GP with various bladder problems, i was referred to the LGH Urology Department on the urgent 'two week wait' system. As promised, i was given an appointment within the two week timescale. The appointment came through the post, with clear times of the tests and scans that were to be performed on the day; also what i needed to do beforehand in preparation for the procedures. I called the hospital the day before as i was a little anxious and the person that answered the phone was both helpful and reassuring. I arrived at the hospital on the day and was able to park easily in the advised car park. I was seen immediately at reception and shown where to go for my Ultrasound Scan. This was carried out quickly and respectfully. I was then seen almost immediately for an X-Ray, again the staff were professional, caring and considerate. After a short wait, i was seen by an assessment nurse, then taken to the room where a Cystoscopy was performed. The two nurses that prepared me for this procedure were very conscious of the fact that this was a somewhat embarrassing procedure, consequently were extremely considerate in helping me retain a certain degree of dignity throughout. The doctor who performed the Cystoscopy was gentle and professional, explaining what was happening throughout the procedure. Fortunately the Cystoscopy was negative. Furthermore they explained in detail the findings of the Ultrasound Scan and X-Ray, explaining that that i had possible Kidney Stones. A CT Scan was requested by the doctor, who told me that this would be carried out within six weeks. I had the CT Scan yesterday (three weeks later). The Radiographer that carried out the scan (Thursday 28th May at 7.15pm) was an absolutely wonderful person. Extremely kind, considerate and patient. I had lots of questions and never felt rushed in any way. They explained the procedure every step of the way and had a calming, caring manner throughout, they really do deserve personal recognition for their skills. I was told how to get the results and a copy of the report should i require one. Consequently i came away feeling reassured and well informed as to when i would get the results; even though i wasn't given any clear answers on the night regarding the findings of the scan. The hospital was spotlessly clean throughout, during both of my visits. Every member of staff was courteous and professional, whilst being caring and considerate, especially the Radiographer, a real credit to the L.G.H. Thank-you Leicester General Hospital, N.H.S. at its very best!
