"Eye care"

About: Gloucestershire Royal Hospital

I feel really lucky to be receiving treatment for wet macular degeneration at Gloucestershire Royal Hospital. Waiting to go to the first appointment was very uncomfortable; the prospect of having a sharp needle anywhere near an eyeball is pretty terrifying let alone it actually entering it. However after the first meeting with an examining nurse all my fears dissolved. I have attended five appointments with the ophthalmology department and received a Lucentis injection on four of those occasions, two administered by doctors and two by staff nurses. I really am so impressed by the way I've been treated by everyone, with dignity and good humour and such skill. The responsibility accepted by these practitioners I find truly remarkable. I can't say I actually look forward with joy to my next appointment but being in our late seventies it is a day out for me and my wife! Thank you very much to everyone for looking after me and my sight so well. Mike Phelan.

Dear Mr Phelan, Thank you so much for sharing this feedback with us. It's great to hear you've had such a positive experience of care in the ophthalmology department and we will happily pass your comments on to the staff there. Best wishes The team at Gloucestershire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
