"Excellent care by an excellent team"

About: Whipps Cross University Hospital

It is never easy to be told that you have cancer, however when you are placed under the care of a consultant who is extremely competent but who also listens with understanding and compassion you cannot help but feel in very safe hands..the care that I received from my consultant and the specialist nurse was more than I could have hoped for. I am so pleased that I was under their care. The nurse was so approachable and nothing was too much trouble. The consultant was informative and was willing to take time to explain exactly what was going on, and happy to answer even the most insignificant questions. The operation went very well with excellent results, for which I am so grateful. However, I wish that I could say that I received the same degree of care on Rowan ward, the care was on the other end of the scale. Yes the ward seemed to be understaffed but working in the health service myself, I find it outrageous that nurses can be so lacking in basic patient care. Luckily my stay was a short one and the care I received and needed from the nurse and the consultant and gynaecology/oncology was more than I could have hoped for and I can't recommend them highly enough. I can only say thank you for making one of the toughest times of my life manageable ..you are appreciated.

Dear Gill Thank you for taking time to share your experience during what is a difficult time. We are very happy to hear that your operation went well. Your lovely comments have been passed onto the gynaecology team so that all of the team, including the consultant and the specialist nurse to see. It is, however, sad to hear that the care you received during your stay on Rowan Ward was not to the same standard. Please accept our apologies. This will be shared with the manager of the ward so that improvements can be made to the care provided by our nurses. Wishing you all the best and a full recovery. Kind regards Barts Health NHS Trust
