"licac ward- awful!"

About: Hinchingbrooke Hospital

I had my second baby in March 2015, previously had my first child at this hospital in 2009. The care I received in 2009 was far better than my second experience. I was induced this time which was a new and awful experience, never again! I was on lilac ward for 4 days which was awful. It was very busy and all the midwifes were rush off there feet. Some were very friendly, reassuring and helpful but others were very rude ! I was high risk but I didn't understand why I was such high risk, no one explained this to me when I asked. There was previous medical problems when I had my daughter and kept mentioning this to the doctor that I felt I would not be able to have a normal birth due to this and my baby being large and me being only of small statue. This was not listened to and just dismissed. I ended up having lots of complications during the labour including an infection and was left for 9 hours despite my labour not progressing!! Ended up having an emergency c section. My baby was unwell when born, had an infection like me. I didn't see my baby until mid afternoon and no one told me what was going on even when I asked!! I was very anxious, especially as I had previously lost a baby at 15 weeks. No one explained what infection I had or my baby and they undertook further tests on the baby, these tests were not explained to me or whAt they were testing for! I had to stay on Lilac ward for a further 5 days, which was awful. I found staff to not be very helpful considering I had a c section. I understand staff were busy bit it seemed like they did not have enough staff. My bed was not changed for the remaining 5 days, even when I asked, given my bed was strained. I was very glad when discharged home and very relieved that this was not my first experience!! Despite this the staff within the labour ward ( midwifes) were brilliant and very caring. My midwife was fab and stayed over their hours to see my baby born. They couldn't have done enough for me. I would like to say a big thank you to them.
