"Waiting time for Dermatology"

About: Crosshouse Hospital / Dermatology

(as the patient),

I have been on the current waiting list for 5 weeks to see Dermatology at Crosshouse Hospital. I was told by my doctor the list can take anywhere from 12-26 weeks. This is my third referral in 8 years to this clinic and on each occasion I have had to deal with the same lengthy waiting time. It's been 4 years since my last referral and I had hoped that during this period of time the waiting list would have improved.

I am currently waiting to see the clinic in regards to cystic acne, a condition which not only puts my confidence at rock bottom leaving me not wanting to leave the house it also has my face in a lot of discomfort and pain. The thought of having to wait at least another 7 weeks is pretty soul destroying considering how low I feel already.

I respond initially to most of the posts and ensure they are passed to the appropriate team whether they are compliments, observations or grumbles. It is important to make sure all issues are addressed and I try to encourage that to happen for all the posts as required.

Dear sgl91,

I am sorry you have such a painful condition and waiting is difficult when it has such an effect on you and your life, but I think we have good news to tell about the dermatology waiting times now.

You are right, in the past there have sometimes been real challenges around waiting times however, all the team has worked really hard and the waiting time is currently around 9-10 weeks, so you should only have about 4 more weeks to wait. I can also advise you that if you contact the referral management service on 01563 827070 and ask to be put on the list for a short-notice appointment, you may be seen even earlier. I do hope you get seen soon and get the treatment you need.

Thank you so much for contacting us via Patient opinion.

Best wishes,

Eunice
