My adult daughter was referred for suspected appendicitis. !st stage, staff inattentive and just chatted amongst themselves. Then dumped in A & E. Daughter writhing in pain, no one paid any attention to her, eventually I had to ask if she could lay down. Blood test horrendous, the nurse put the needle through the vein and out the other side. so painful, Daughter already in horrendous pain and vomiting with more being inflicted. Eventually moved to Lulworth ward. Waited all day to see a Doctor. Told she would need surgery. Writhing in pain, she has now suffered 2 days without food and water waiting for surgery, (Plus the day previous, too ill to eat makes 3 days without food or water) and I have to keep an eye on the drip myself as staff do not check regularly enough.I have find someone myself and ask for pain relief when she is in agony. While her vitals were being taken she suffered a major pain attack and the attendant just stood and watched her writhing about. I had to ask, "can someone please help her" Surgery was schedule for 12 midday. I left at 7pm still no doctor had been to see her. Constipation added to her distress and pain, but no laxative of solution was offered. Throughout the night she had to ask 5 times over several hours for pain relief, and yet again ask numerous times for an extra blanket. She is a tough manual worker, not a winger or complainer, but her treatment (or lack of) by the staff has been absolutely appalling. Hospital clean and well maintained, but treatment on a par with a third world country.
