I was referred to Queen's Opthamology A and E by my optician urgently due to a diagnosis of suspected episcleritis and was told I needed steroid drops. I arrived about 10.00am and after a 15 minute wait was told there was only one consultant present and the caseloads for the day were all booked. I was advised to go to Moorfields. After making the trek there (I am a pensioner) I was dealt with very professionally by a consultant who confirmed I needed steroid drops which only a trained eye consultant can prescribe. They also said that Moorfields was being overloaded by patients that should be dealt with locally. Queens should be providing for the needs of the people of Brentwood Barking and Havering and to have only one consultant on duty and advising people to go to Moorfields is ridiculous. Surely Queens should offer the service consistently it claims to operate. I don't think that being full is an adequate excuse or palming patients perpetually off to Moorfields the answer. Judging by other reviewers I am not alone in finding this out.
