"A and E"

About: Queen Elizabeth Hospital (Gateshead)

I had a asthma attack and unfortunatley had to visit A and E. The review is a mixed bag. Initial check in I had to write much of my information as I was struggling to breath.... I then had to wait for triage... I had managed to control my breathing further by this time... thankfully. There were people ahead of me. It has my understanding that breathing distress may be checked ahead what appeared to be a sprained ankle? By the time I saw the nurse who was very efficent; that was not a compliment! I have had more human kindness from a cardboard cut out... I present a typically for asthma apparently... I compensate for some time before my stats drop.. I need a nebuliser asap.... as my stats were ok etc... listen to people,, I might as well have been talking in morse code! The fantastic bit.... the consultant I saw in A and E was fantastic, treatment was second to none... They listened to me, valued my views and gave me active treatment... They listened to me.... is that so hard... The doctor was great... why was the first bit not that great... I am still a bit unwell but after following to his advise I visited my GP and I have a chest infection etc and am on meds. Mind I have to say its still so much better than treatment I had at another hospital last year... I hate coming to hospital and avoid at all costs, but when people come in they deserve some human kindness and to be valued and respected.
