"Patronising staff"

About: King George Hospital

Don't talk to patients using terms like "water pipe" and "willy pipe". Don't assume we are ignorant and uneducated, some of us are experienced professionals with university degrees and know what a ureter is and what a urethra is. Don't call me his missis, I am his wife. We are not all deaf so don't shout. Give us some dignity when talking to us. Don't patronise us.

Thank you for leaving your comment on NHS Choices. I am sorry that you felt the language used by our staff was unsuitable. Please be assured that this wouldn’t be our staff’s intention to cause upset. However if you could provide further information, please contact me through our PALS team on 01708 435 454 or email PALS@bhrhospitals.nhs.uk so that this can be looked into. Yours sincerely Wendy Matthews Interim Chief Nurse
