I was asked by a 111 controller to take an elderly neighbour (with complex medical issues) to the Royal Free and that I could park in the drop off bays at a&e. The 11 controller assured me this would be fine and was quite demanding that I took the patient to hospital.
This was an emergency as the patient had had a fall at home and had been unconcious and was unable to walk unaided to get treatment. I stayed with her until she had been seen by a doctor.
I was unaware there was a restriction in parking in the drop off bays, and I did not notice any information or tickets machines. It was dark and it's not very well lit.
I have paid the parking fine and am now appealing against it. There really needs to be better signage of parking restrictions.
Next time I call 111 I'll ask them to send an ambulance.
