What I liked
I was very nervous about an in patient stay but from the start of my stay I was most pleasantly surprised. First, I was offered hotel accommodation instead of staying on a ward. Second, the hospital day ward was exceptionally clean and also very comfortable. My comfort and personal dignity were considered a priority at all times which has not been the case elsewhere and was also a really pleasant surprise. The nurses were lovely and looked after me extremely well. Their care for all of us on the ward was exceptional. The food was excellent which was another surprise after all the bad press about it. Also, the catering staff really took care to find out what I liked and disliked. Even more importantly, the medical investigations were really thorough, I felt that the doctors really cared about getting to the root of my problems. Everything was explained to me and I felt well cared for and looked after throughout. I was worried about finding my way around but porters helped me everywhere. The cause was found and medication recommended and I feel that I have my life back again. I am very grateful indeed and pleased to have an opportunity to reassure others and to thank a wonderful team. The hospital and its staff are a real credit to the NHS. Thank you.
What could be improved
the main waiting area was not as comfortable as the main day ward as the rows of chairs were too close together. There were also not enough toilets although those that were there were extremely clean and well kept.
The signposting to the day ward was not as good as it might have been.
