"A lack of use of chain of command and pathetic..."

About: Queen Alexandra Hospital

I was brought into this hospital by ambulance following an NHS Direct call. I was diagnosed by the paramedic and the A&E department with the same thing. While in A&E some nurse unsuccessfully tried to install a catheter, I am still waiting to find out what damage they has caused me.. After several hours floating around like a spare part in A&E was moved up to Ward D1.. Still in unbelievable pain a panel of about 3 doctors stood before me, one decided I had something else and not what I was diagnosed with and showing symptoms of. The reason for this was that they had had something similar, that something I had also had myself in the past and said this was far worse than that. However I lost my case I was condemned to a week on D1 in the most excruciating pain and the urgent operation that was required to be carried out in the small window of opportunity that exists for the actual problem I had and was brought in for. A week of Oramorph and diazepam and many other painkiller left me weak and annoyed, They lost three urine specimens which was quite urgent as I was urinating blood, in the end when i could finally use crutches I took it down to the desk myself to make sure somebody actually does something with it. The doctor that seemed to be assigned to me was like a ghost, I barely saw them, they showed little interest in few seconds I ever got with them. When asking for the doctor, they would not come, I would see them carefully stick their head around the window to have a peek into my room to see what was going on but quickly disappeared hoping they had not been seen. What a joke... The nurses did there best but I feel could have used more common sense and their chain of command sooner and more efficiently when they were unsure of what to do with my pain.. I am very grateful however for their kindness and level of care they showed to me, especially when I just wanted somebody to knock me out so I would not have to deal with such pain anymore. When my elusive doctors finally signed me off to go home, the doctor did not tell me of anybody else, the nurses had to go through my notes to see what was happening with me when they saw this note. I returned to my room and packed my things, the nurses brought to me my medicines and kindly and thoroughly answered my questions about them. Just before I left I was approached by one of the ward staff who said that they were of the opinion that I should have been sent of the operation and that doctor was incorrect and wrong to block the urgent operation I needed when I arrived. Now I hobble around on my crutches, I have only just stopped urinating blood, my GP has since had to change some of my meds. I am sure that I will be making an official complaint at some point in the future depending on my recovery or lack of it.
