"Children's A+E visit"

About: Lister Hospital

I was very impressed by the caring attitude of the nurse who triaged my son. While I appreciate that staff may have been busy, it took an hour from first going to A+E reception to being triaged, and then 3 hours 15 minutes to see a doctor for a second opinion about whether he needed an x-ray, which he didn't thankfully and we could leave. I have had three other visits to A+E with him in the past year and each time has been quicker than this. I feel that knowing a second opinion is needed on something like a decision to x-ray should have been much quicker and saved us being in A+E for 4.5 hours (more than the 3 hours 59 minutes suggested onhis discharge letter!)

Thanks for the feedback on the service provided by our colleagues in the Lister's children's emergency department, which we will make sure reached the team this morning. We're sorry that the wait you experienced was longer than expected, on which no doubt the team will reflect. That said, however, the last few days has seen exceptionally high levels of attendances at the Lister in both the adults and children's emergency departments services - especially for those brought in by emergency ambulance. This has caused longer waits for those with more minor conditions, but we accept that perhaps more could have been done to keep you updated on what was happening. We hope that your son has now gone on to make a good recovery.
