Hi, this is a story of how illness creeps up on you and the magnificent NHS Treatment that you can get in Victoria Hospital, Kirkcaldy in Scotland when you really need it.

I am 61 years old, and I had been bothered with grumbly sore pains in the right hand side of my stomach for probably several years, being honest, anyhow this April it finally became more than just a Grumbling Pain in my side and became a continuous really sore side, I went to my GP first, but as I have not visited my local GP for over 20 years, he did not think it was too serious, as I had not complained to him before about it, this was on the Thursday, he gave me tablets to take and told me to come back and see him if it got worse.

Well Friday night I couldn't sleep, early Saturday morning my wife had to call NHS24 for me, she took me down to Queen Margarets in Dunfermline, which was the Out of Hours centre for our area. They sent me straight along to the Victoria Hospital in Kirkcaldy, where they kept me in for the day, and ran numerous tests to try and diagnose exactly what my problem was, I had to go home for Sunday, as they did not have staff to give me a scan on Sunday, with strict instructions to be back at 9. 00am on Monday, when I then got a scan, that showed I had a seriously septic Gall Bladder that had to be removed, that happened on Wednesday, and I then spent the next 7 days in Victoria, recovering from the Keyhole Surgery.

I now feel 100 times better than I have done for probably a few years being honest.

I would like to say an enormous Thank You to all the specialist staff and Nursing as well as Catering Staff at the Victoria Hospital, I was very impressed and could not fault the care and attention I received while there.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your recent health care experience. I am glad they were able to identify the cause of your pain quickly as I understand this type of pain can be horrendous. I was pleased to hear about the good treatment you received and to receive your comments about the catering. Nutrition plays such a vital role in recovery.

I will gladly share your feedback with the teams concerned. Do you remember what ward you were in? I know they will be delighted to receive such positive feedback.

Hi, you asked which Ward I was in, when I was first in on the Saturday, I was in Admissions Ward 1, then when I came back on the Monday I was in Admissions 2, on the Wednesday after the Op, I was in the High Dependency for 2 days, before being moved to Ward 53 (a single ward) on the 5th Floor.

I spent most of the time in Ward 53, but ALL the staff in my opinion were excellent, I am in their debt for their treatment and handling, please pass on my thanks to all your staff.
