"Spinall decompression / discectomy surgery was Ace..."

I attended for spinal decompression surgery. Booked in quickly, was prepared for surgery by a nice friendly nurse who I had a good chat with and some jovial banter. i then met the surgeon who explained what they would be doing, signed the consent papers etc. I was then seen by the anesthnatist, who explained what they would be doing and went through my relevant medical history. Popped on my paper underwear and strolled off to surgery. Walked into theater, and was asked to lay on a bed, bit of a chat then I woke up in post op recovery and after a while transferef to ward 8b I think it was. Now bearing in mind there is 4 beds to a ward and everyone has had some sort of surgery. We were all in some form of discomfort and on some pretty strong pain medication. I couldn't sleep for more than an hour at a time but that was ok as there was always someone else awake at the same time willing to have a chat even at 3am. The staff were great and I was looked after well, there are some really nice staff here and the student nurses showed great compassion where it was due. If I was in pain it was only a matter of pressing the button and asking for more pain relief which was forthcoming. I was visited twice by the surgeon who had carried out the surgery and they enquired about my aftercare and explained what they had done. The food was very nice, the soup which I am lead to believe is made on site was brilliant, the custard was a bit hit and miss though so my stay wasn't perfect I only stayed in for two nights but I managed to have a good laugh with the other Guests :) Before being discharged I was assessed by the physio and they made sure I could , walk, climb stairs and go the the toilet on my own. I was also sorted out with a sick note for work and pain medication. The operation seems to have been a success and I'm personally very happy with my care at this hospital. The one minor I would give is that I was told by the physio that they were not allowed to see me on the same day as my operation, although on that day I had been out of bed and been to the toilet etc without being shown how to get out of bed correctly, the surgeon also thought I would have been seen as when they came onto the ward I was standing up chatting away.
