my self and my partner went into delivery suite on May 1st 2015 for an induction as I was 40+12. We were taken into a delivery room swiftly after arriving at 7pm and introduced to the first of our midwives, who fully informed us on what would happen and gave me an examination and managed to break my waters and start me off on a drip, this started my contractions pretty much straight away and I was monitored closely to make sure we were all kept safe and knew what was happening. Night turned into day after several hours of strengthening contractions, shift change and in came two more midwives and an anaesthetist, who gave me an epidural (after being told I couldn't previously) which was a blessed relief as contractions were rolling into one another very quickly, but the care we received and information that was passed onto us was great. As we were being monitored, it was noticed that baby was getting distressed at every contraction and then every time I pushed her heart rate was dipping, so was decided that I would have forceps to get her out quickly, the rest was a blur as she was whisked away to nicu, and we were looked after in delivery, and then moved to postnatal later on 2nd may, when our baby girl came back to us on the evening and were were released on the Tuesday evening following care and support from the postnatal ward, who were clearly run off their feet but tried their hardest to provide care to each and every new mum on the ward, not an easy task but they tried their best to do so under very difficult and stretched staffing levels. I cannot praise the midwives, anaesthetists, paediatricians and all the other staff on the delivery suite and nicu and postnatal enough, you made what was quite a traumatic labour and recovery slightly easier for all of us, and feel like I cannot say enough good things about you all, thank you so so so much!!
"delivery suite staff were nothing short of amazing"
