"Total hysterectomy stay"

I stayed for what turned out to be 4 nights due to pain. The staff pre op on ward 11 were great, very relaxed atmosphere apart from when I arrived quite apprehensive and 2 members of staff came into the waiting room and it was like I was invisible until I said am I in the right place to one of them and then they acknowledged me being there. The wait for the op was quite long over 5 hours but I was last on list and someone has to be so that was fine. On ward 11, I was in quite some pain on return to the ward and was aware my husband was left to wait in the corridor at first even though it was still visiting time which upset him, my mouth was dry as a bone and the nurses kept ignoring me so in the end my husband had to get tissue wet it and wet my mouth to try to make me a bit more comfortable. The nursing care was good the nurses & hca's were helpful, friendly and had a good sense of humour , although one evening I was in pain so asked what time the medicines would be administered and they said 10pm so I waited patiently and at 10.50 I was in agony and pressed my buzzer they said on their way and I laid there in tears for a further 40 minutes for my medication which I think was right as all the leaflets stated you don't have to suffer with pain. The food on the ward was fine, I didn't expect too much after but was pleasantly surprised, you could help yourself to breakfast, there was a dining room with bread, jams, cereals, milk, drinks whenever you wanted them, at lunch their was a trolley where you were served salad, baguettes, Jackiet potatoes etc which was really nice and in the evening you picked from a very varied menu of which I had a few curries which I must say we're the better options from the menu if picked from the Asian menu as bought in from outside in pre packaging and we really tasty and filling, My bug bear on the ward was visiting it was so inconsistent, I was in a 4 bed ward on my first night the 2 beds opposite had 3 visitors, the following I had 2 & again the bed opposite had 3 visitors one of which was a young girl running around everywhere but no one minded and then that night of my 2 grown up daughters and 1 boyfriend attended, I had already informed my daughter that my 10 month grandson was not allowed to attend as I was told he had to be 18 months, a nurse on reception who hadn't stepped foot on my bay since I been there stopped them, shouted who you here for, only 2 allowed, you can swap over and clean your hands, they were down right rude and my youngest daughter who works in care was disgusted and upset, especially when the she came into my bay to see there were 2 empty beds and the other patient in the bay next to me had 3 visitors as did the bay's next to us, so how can this be right, I had to sit in the corridor in discomfort as didn't want my visitor left alone, discharge no sick note, hrt advice or questionnaire given inconsistent to others in bay. The consultant was great through the whole process. Thank you.
