"Visit to meddoc at medway hospital then referral..."

About: Medway Maritime Hospital

My 14 year old daughter having had a bad chest and cough for over 4 months ended up yet again at meddoc at medway hospital where she was referred for chest xray, doctor checked xray and said all was clear but she was admitted to penguin childrens ward, at half 3 in the morning we were seen by a doctor who told us my daughters cough was nothing more than a nervous tick!!! we walked out at 4am! 2 weeks later called gp for blood test results to be told we need to come in for xray results?? same xray that doctor at medway said was clear! arrived at gp's to be told my daughter had a shadow over her heart and lung! further investigations showed her to have segmental collapse and consolidation of the left lung!. Twice we went to medway and both times fobbed off with rubbish when all the time my daughter was getting worse. We ended up having to pay to go private because all faith in medway hospital lost! Fortunately our own gp has been a lot more helpful than the staff at medway were.

I am sorry that your experience of care on Penguin ward was not to the high standard we aim to give. I would be pleased to look into the matter further if you contact my secretary. Thank you. Dr Richard Patey, Lead Clinician, General Paediatrics. Secretary (01634) 825142 in office hours.
