"Flexible Cystoscopy"

I am 71 and it is many many years since I had a cystoscopy, in fact you then had a general anaesthetic before this procedure. Nowadays, that is not necessary, no anaesthetic at all, just a numbing wipe. The doctor who carried out the cystoscopy was brilliant and it was all over quickly enough. The downside is that the hospital calls you in about 1 hour prior to your actual procedure. Your relative cannot wait with you before you go into the endoscopy suite.

Thank you for your kind comments about the doctor that carried out the cystoscopy. We are sorry that you are not happy other aspects of your experience. The reason we ask patients to attend earlier than their appointment is so that they can be booked in and consented without being rushed. Unfortunately, the staff do work on other sites across county and on this particular day the list was delayed slightly due to travelling from Market Harborough. Patients are able to wait with their relatives until they are taken to the ward for their procedure. We do not have relatives on the ward in the interest of privacy and dignity for the patients as they are required to wear a gown. We will always do our best to accommodate individual needs wherever possible. Should you wish to discuss this issue further please contact our Patient Advice and Liaison Service/Complaints department on 0116 295 0830 or email them at pals@leicspart.nhs.uk
