"My Neurology experience"

About: Harrogate District Hospital / Neurology

(as the patient),

It's taken from my asking for an appointment in November to get one for neurology in Harrogate recently. It should have been put in place to happen automatically in August. Considering that I had legitimate concerns with my condition after being fit free for over 18 months and the condition returning, I felt it imperative that these concerns were addressed.

Not only did my designated neurologist leave without forwarding patients, but the day after I received a letter in December confirming receipt of my request for an appointment, the neurology department in Harrogate shut down and no one enlightened me to this either.

After waiting and waiting for a letter to tell me when my appointment was, I first contacted my GP, who assured me that a request was put in. It sounded like it had actually been forgotten, so I switched GPs.

I then contacted Harrogate hospital in March, where I found out that the old GP had, in fact, arranged an appointment for me. I then heard from the receptionist there nonchalantly, 'Sorry, the neurology department in Harrogate has closed down. You should have received a letter to tell you this, that would give alternative arrangements? '. As politely as I could at this stage, I assured the receptionist that I had no such contact.

While it was agreed that this was a very long period with no contact, until I went through all of my paperwork to check, it was assumed that I forgot. So I chased and chased the appointment until yesterday, where my new neurologist managed to tell me in under 20 minutes that

A. They had no idea why the appointment wasn't given earlier, given the circumstances.

B. The neurologist would like to increase my prescription, because it should have been addressed more frequently and periodically increased. The neurologist believes that this may have prevented my fits in June and November.

C. My current form of a certain drug is not the best way for me to take it, that a different variety would provide a more constant feeling and less side effects.
