"A & E"

About: North Middlesex Hospital

I took my husband to North Middlesex Hospital A & E on the advice of NHS Direct. There was a 4 hour wait . We were seen a little quicker because my husband felt unwell. After waiting all that time we saw a triage nurse and a nurse practioner - no doctor was anywhere to be seen. My husband was in pain and was told that (in their opinion) he did not need an xray. We had to insist. Then we were sent away and told to see the GP on Tuesday. At least half of those in the waiting room should have been sent home full stop. One person sat waiting because he had a cold! Not impressed with this service at all

Thank you for your feedback. I am the A&E service manager, amanda.hallums@nhs.net and will be sharing your comments with the team. Every patient is triaged and a clinical judgement is made for a treatment plan. You rightly observed that many people who attend A&E have not got life threatening symptoms and could easily be seen by their GP first. I hope your husband is making a good recovery.
