"Should we really care about mixed sex wards?"

I find it hard to believe that anybody could complain about mixed sex wards on the medical assessment unit.

Having recently being admitted myself, the gender of the person in the bed opposite or next to mine was the least of my worries, people should stop and take a moment to be thankful that they have a bed at all.

I'm sure that as soon patients have been assessed and if they do indeed need a longer stay the staff will endevour to do their best to find the patient in question a bed on a ward more suitable as soon as possible. Surely the people who are complaining about mixed sex wards can't be suggesting that they split the medical assesment unit into two, one male and the other female?

So if the male side was full and the female side had empty beds would the next male who needed admitting simply go without a bed purely because of his gender? That is absolutuly ridiculous, there is a big enough shortage of beds in the health service as it is without adding extra strain on both nurses, doctors and hospital administrators worrying about the gender of the next patient.
