"I had my first baby here and was ..."

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

(as the patient),

What I liked

I had my first baby here and was delivered healthy and happy. My baby was also admitted here at 3 weeks old as he stopped breathing. A and E were brilliant as they were a few weeks ago when he had an astma attack. They saw him straight away and the nurses were amazig with him as were the doctors. Medication was administered immediatly and we were put on a ward very quickly. i also think this is the cleanest area in the whole hospital and every nurse and doctor washed there hands before touching him. I also took him to a and e as he had a meningitis scare and they were fantastic. Even supporting me as he had a lumber pucture and i was really worried. Also all the further x rays and tests after he left the hospital have been very quick and results very well explained. Highly recommend the Dr, he was amazing althogh i think he came from st georges. but even so really can t fault the care there. And also in the ecg department abslutly brilliant especially with a tiny baby. Thank You!!!!!!!!!

What could be improved

The Staff!!!!!! cleanlines was ok. room was cleaned everyday and the cleaners were very friendly even tho they dont speak any english. Also we only saw the doctors every other day. Think this should be changed to twice a day for very worried mums.

Anything else?

However on the labour ward when he was being delivered it was a different story. My midwife had a stinking cold and kept wiping her nose on her shoulder. also there were three women giving birth at the same time and she was delivering all three and kept running in and out yet every time i went into reception there were at least 5 or 6 midwifes doing nothing. Also before i actually was allowwed to stay in the hospital (although in extreme pain and losing far too much blood) i was sent to triage to be examined. there was 1 midwife in there and i have never seen anyone so rude in my life, especially when she was dealing with very frightened young women. At one point she slammed the phone down and threw her pen across the room. Also when it came to seeing me she never changed the sheets from the lady bfore and they had blood on them i had to take them off myself. however when i saw her later she was much nicer but this should nt be allowed to happen. maybe get some help for the poor women!!!!! The childrens ward was shocking. some of the nurses were lovely but most off them were no grumpy and at one point one nurse held my 3 week old babies head to the cot with extreme force and made him scream when the nurse before had done the same procedure and he never mumered! I dont believe its because they are understaffed as they were just sat around drinking tea and talking about last weeks fella. I know they work long hours but i used to work 15 hours a day seven days a week for minimum wage and i never complained its what i chose to do. and who on eath takes it out on a 3 week old baby! I was extremley angry and upset. However despite all these problems i have abeautiful and now healthy baby boy.
