"It seemed clean. I was sent for ..."

About: St Peter's Hospital (Chertsey)

(as the patient),

What I liked

It seemed clean. I was sent for a breast ultrasound scan to check a lump and my appointment was very quick from my doctor referring me to my appointment date, however, when I turned up for the scan, after a two hour delay, I was just given a physical examination by a locum who was as perplexed as me. She also thought she was doing scans that day.

What could be improved

After the first pointless appointment where I was given the same physical examination that my GP had given me that led to the scan in the first place, I then went back for a second appointment a couple of weeks later. When I turned up for this one (another half day off work) I was told my appointment had been cancelled. After threatening to make a scene and a very nice lady on the ultra sound reception recognising that I was upset she agreed to fit me in. After an hour long wait in a gown in a mixed sex area I had my scan. I made a follow up appointment but this was cancelled due to the snow but I was not told about it. I was never sent another appointment. I had to call three times to ask the receptionist to send my report to my GP so that he could give me the results. I was told that she'd forgotten when I phoned to ask why this hadn't been done. It took over 3 months between the first appointment and actually getting my results from my GP.

Anything else?

I was not sent anything about my appointments by the hospital so had no information about what sort of a scan I was going to or what to expect. The tip to bring a dressing gown would have been appreciated. As an information seeker, I googled it to see what sort of scan I might have. I wasn't impressed as there seemed to be absolutely no rush or interest in giving me my results. I had to assume that it wasn't cancer otherwise they'd put more urgency into it all. Luckily I was right.
