"Emergency Care Unit Stay"

About: North Tyneside General Hospital

II am writing this on behalf of my mother who has dementia and cant speak for herself. She put on to this ward because she had been given insulin by mistake in the care home. Don't get me wrong the doctors and consultant were very good and told me exactly what was happening. But apart from that I would say the reception are the not the best I was told she would be going home at tea time and the receptionist had forgotten to book the ambulance to get her back to the care home and I didn't get back till nearly 11 pm. I asked the question if she could stay overnight but said they needed the bed.

Dear Sir / Madam, Sorry to hear about your Mum's recent admission - you must have been very worried about her. I am glad care and communication on the unit was good but I am very sorry that we didn't book an ambulance for your Mum in a timely way and that this meant a really late journey home for her that evening. I can appreciate how unsettling this might be for someone who has dementia. I will share your review with the emergency care team - I know they review all feedback from patients and families very seriously. with apologies once again, Annie
