"E58 acute stroke ward"

About: Sunderland Royal Hospital

my mum was visiting us to recover from the death of my brother and a stroke when unfortunately she had another stroke whilst here ,she was in the ward for 3 weeks and the care was excellent, mum said she couldnt fault the nursing staff (although she commented that a few needed to brush up on their people skills and were very abrupt with her )then she started having seizures and was again admitted for another 3 weeks .the care was fantastic so thankyou to all staff .i realise that the staff are very busy but it would havebeen nice if we were told whats happening instead of searching for a nurse to explain mums treatment.the only complaint is that the day mum was discharged i had a phone call to tell me .i explained that i wasnt in the house at that time and that no-one else was in and then i get another call to tell me she was on the ambulance .luckily i got home 5 mins before she arrived!!!!apart from that i would like to say thankyou to all staff on 58e for their care of mum who is now making a slow revcovery .

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review of the care your mother received from the Stroke Unit. It is really important that we hear both positive and negative aspects of care in order that we can learn from what we do well and what needs to be improved. We're pleased to hear that overall your mother (and your family) were happy with the level of care provided, however its disappointing to read that some aspects of communication were not as good as we would have liked and for that we apologise. We will ensure your comments are shared with the ward team. Thank you once again.
