"Lack of staff care on Medical Assessment Unit"

About: Tameside General Hospital / Cardiology

(as a staff member posting for a patient/service user),

This story has been posted by Healthwatch Tameside on behalf of a member of the public who wanted to remain anonymous. They said...

MAU Acute admission last November. Food totally unacceptable.

Carers not evident on ward, and appeared busy when his relatives could find someone to ask for help but not clear what they were doing. Certainly not assisting patients. Was not shown the nurse call system buzzer.

Night staff sat outside open ward door and had audible conversations with each other. He feared he would have another heart attack and wouldn’t be able to attract staff’s attention.

We are sorry that this happened in November 2014. Many changes have occurred in the last 6 months to ensure that a high standard of care is given to all our patients and that we provide support and understanding at all times.

John Goodenough

Director of Nursing

’Would you like to help the hospital to improve its services further? We are currently looking for patients and carers to become involved in a development called “Patient Stories”. We want to know more about our services from the point of view of those who received them – what was good, bad, what could be improved, what should be changed. Want to know more about what’s involved? Please contact John Goodenough, Director of Nursing at
