About: Royal Surrey County Hospital

i was referred by my GP to attend the A&E at the Royal Surrey due to a suspected quinsy, I was very impressed with the level of care that i received from both the nurses and doctors in the A&E department. Although i had to wait 8 hours for a bed on a ward, it was extremely busy and i was well looked after. Once i was finally put onto a ward by level of care decreased, there was poor english spoken to me by one of the staff who ignored what i said when answering the question regarding my hight, several times i told her i was 5ft8 and they repeatedly stated 5ft5, this was further noted on my notes. I was being given IV antibiotics every 6 hours, the first morning when I was due to receive my dose the canular, was not working, the nurse changed this but did not give me the antibiotics, yet when the staff had changed over I questioned this and it had been signed in the MAR chart. I was further on IV fluids which due to air bubbles being in the drip, stopped working and set off an alarm, a nurse instead of fixing the issue turned the machine off and disconnected it, i had received less that 1/4 of this and it was not started again for 12 hours.at this point I had not eaten or drank anything for 36 hours due to the pain in my throat. The food order forms were repeatedly fill out on my behalf, due to my condition i couldn't not eat hard foods which i was consistently given. I asked for pain relief and was left waiting for a hour and a half, i would keep asking the nurses and pushing the assistant bell and was told every time I'm getting them ill be back in a minute. i can appreciate that the wards are busy, but the pain i was experiencing was excruciating. lastly i was prescribed a mouthwash for the pain this was to be taken 6 times a day, and was on my MAR chart, throughout my stay on the ward i was questioned regarding if i had this , i would reply no and that would be the end of it, i only received when i was discharged amongst the medication received form the pharmacy.
