The hospital site has multiple access issues which make it almost in accessible for wheelchairs if you are arriving from the local area rather than by bus or car. There are very few drop curbs that make it difficult to move around the site and access from the Ashfield school side is not possible from the direction of Evington. This is due to a complete lack of drop curbs. To manage this people must use the zebra crossing on Broad Avenue then travel a considerable distance to the next set of lights then cross again and make the same distance on the other side of the road adding 15 minutes to the journey - all for the sake of a lack of drop curbs.

Dear Reviewer Thank you for your feedback. We agree that there certainly is scope to improve accessibility at the General and are sorry that you have had difficulty navigating the site. There is an option to undertake an excavation project and relocation of drainage systems but the most effective solution would be gained by working with Leicester City Council to overcome the drop in level between the edge of the hospital site and the public pathway. There is currently disabled pedestrian access from the school exit point across the road onto a dropped kerb on the hospital site, down to the public bus stop on the right hand side of the road after you leave the Leicester General site. This route is approximately 12 metres longer than the option above. From this point on the public road there are no dropped kerbs to cross the road outside of the General’s site.
