What I liked
All female ward.
Use of 'Volunteers' .
Thoroughness of the Doctors.
Informative day surgery theatre staff who were supportive and showed exceptional care and communication skills.
What could be improved
A 'Nursing Standard' of what patients can expect should be on display.
Nursing staff responsiveness to patient needs (sling, dry sheets, overnight emergency toiletries, pillows, towels, timing of diabetes requirements etc).
Communication and co-operation beween departments - No elitism.
Briefing of all facilities on admittance to a ward.
Anything else?
Very poor and inadequete parking facilities for a hospital of this size and rural catchment area. Very expensive parking fees, particulary as appointments rarely run to time and patient discharges are unnecessarily protracted.
Seagulls are a particular noise, nesting and mess hazard and are very irritating overnight.
All Doctors should be instructed to wash hands between patients.
Bed bays in the cardiac units should be clearly numbered and patient names displayed for safety reasons.
Monitors should not be switched 'off'.
"All female ward.
Use of 'Volunteers' ..."
