Pregnancy and scan's should feel special and you should feel valued and cared for where the staff treat you like you're their first patient of the day where they talk to you, give you information and make you feel at ease. For some people its a one in a lifetimes experience. Went for 12 week baby scan today. The totally un-engaged Sonographer was flippant, and clearly bored with their job, obviously done similar scans 100s of times before and boy did it show! Partner laid there for ten minutes whilst sonographer stared silently at the screen with a stern face until the last 2 minutes when they turned the screen round for us to see our growing baby for the first time. Gave no info until we asked 'is all ok'?, has it got a nosebone? Is there a heartbeat? No other information was offered from them at all! Happily took £5.00 from us for a photo we had no choice of choosing! Then went to give bloods in an open room where two other families were sat with children. Hospitals are places you don't generally enjoy visiting but the one time it should feel special and exciting, the staff left you feeling deflated and uninformed.
