"Not a great deal"

About: Southampton General Hospital

(as a relative),

What I liked

Not a great deal

What could be improved

I found the male toilet on level one near the Main Entrance was flooded and dirty.

I found the cleanliness of the ward I visited to be lower than I would have expected

The ward I visited had debris on the floor that had been there the day before when I visited.

My relative ( Patient ) said she had the same glass to drink out of for three days running

The table top had not been cleaned or wiped over since she arrived at the ward.

The cleaning regime and supervision needs to be improved dramatically.

Anything else?

I visited the hospital on 1st and 2nd Aug .

The car park lighting is appalling. It was dimly lit and the reason for this was that nearly 25% of the light fittings were defective in one way or another, either one or more of the tubes or the fittings were defective.

Bearing in mind the charges levied, one would think that the trust would provide a well lit car park. For very valid reasons of safety of the people paying for and using it.

Please pass these comments onto your Estates Department. I would be ashamed to be in control of or connected to your maint section responsible for this area.

Thank you for taking the time to comment on our services. We have very high standards for cleanliness but on this occasion your experience has not reflected this. The issues about the male toilet and ward cleanliness have been raised with the Head of Estates. If you would like to get in touch with our Patient Advice and Liaison (PALS) team on 023 8079 8498 or email pals@suht.swest.nhs.uk and let us know which ward your relative was on, we can also inform the senior nursing staff.

Our parking charges do partly fund maintenance of the car parks while the remainder goes into funding patient services. Again, we have high standards for safety including lighting which do not appear to have been met on this occasion. Your feedback about the car park has been brought to the attention of the Head of Estates.
