"Cracked spine"

About: Babington Hospital

After being treated and mistreated at Royal Derby, I was sent to Belper for rehab. The patients were mostly getting better so were happy, The staff were happy and approachable, the food was good and the rabbits outside provided amusement. What could be better? The hospital only has a part time GP for medical advice and the doctor found out the cause of my problem (lack of vitamin D) which was beyond the capability of Derby with all their modern equipment. There was a false fire alarm which went on for a long time as no-one knew how to turn it off. Was this the responsibility of the fire brigade?

Thank you so much for your kind comments. Our promise to all patients is that you will always feel welcome and valued and that your care meets your individual needs. We do have part time GP cover for the ward, in line with the other Derbyshire Community Health Services hospitals (DCHS). Our medical model relies on an Advanced Nurse Practitioner who works full time and is very experienced. If the ward felt they needed additional advice from a doctor they would of course ring them or utilise the Out of Hours Service. As you can appreciated the ward staff are not allowed to silence the fire alarm until it has been authorised by either Estates or the Fire Brigade once the alarm is confirmed as being false. It is true that not all of the staff would be aware of how to silence it, as that would be the responsibility of "senior cover" who have undertaken additional training to do so. I will ensure your comments are fed back to the team. Sarah Youd, Matron, Derbyshire Community Health Services Fountation Trust.
