My husband was admitted to A&E with suspected chest infection. As my husband is an Oncology patient and under going Chemo tablet form. On admission he was put in Room 6 of the bays in that department. The room was so small no chairs, I had to go and find some, also no pillows on the bed, and the bed was high, my poor husband who had lung, liver and kidney cancer was so tired after being in this room for 4 hours he was falling asleep sitting up in a hard chair. He climbed on the bed the wrong way around and I had to use my jacket for his head. I felt that this room was not suitable for a cancer patient, I know it was supposed to be till they knew if they were admitting him. My husband was then admitted to a bay in Acute. On the Monday he started with dirarreha, I informed the staff. During the night he went to the toilet 12 times. They decided to take a specimen. My husband was kept in the same bay using the same toilet as other male patients, Fortunately my husbands dirarreha was probably due to the Antibiotics and the Tarceva drug which had been taking prior to admission. The oncology team came to see him on Tuesday and prescribed a toilet tablet. Which helped him a great deal. You can imagine his distress dragging the antibiotic drip with him to the toilet. He was moved on the Wednesday to ward 6Y I am in know way making a complaint about the staff, we found them caring and did there best to make my husband comfortable. Just making you aware of situations.
