"Great service at a tough time"

About: Royal United Hospital

Just wanted to say thank you to everyone who has helped me since my missed miscarriage in Feb 2015. The staff were all brilliant, from the consultant who had to tell me the news, to those involved in my ERPC, subsequent blood tests, scans and further ERPC! It was an awful time but I always felt really looked after when I was there. Only thing that I struggled with was the nature/layout of department meant that you're often sat next to/ faced with pregnant women/ happy couples with their scan pictures. I always used the smaller entrance (D7?), rather than the main maternity one, but there were times it was closed due to meetings taking place and I had to walk into main entrance to see couples taking their newborns home. Completely appreciate that there's probably nothing that can be done about this, but it is absolutely heartbreaking when you're going through a loss. Something that I think could be done (and this is not down to RUH I know, but would really appreciate it being passed to who can!) is changing the front cover of maternity notes. It currently has a picture of a baby on it. I got given my notes at 9 wks and lost the baby at 12 wks. For the last 10 wks since my loss I've had to carry these notes to and from appointments and it's really upset me. (And to be honest when I was pregnant, the picture scared me anyway!) I don't think people with successful pregnancies would mind a plain, or prettily patterned notes cover, but for the huge number of women who suffer losses I think it would help. Little things! :0) Thank you for taking the time to read. I think staff at RUH are brilliant and I hope to be back for happier times soon!

We thank you for your kind comments about the care you received at what must have been a very difficult time for you and your family. We will of course pass on your comments to staff who I’m sure will be very grateful for your feedback which has been very helpful and is valued by us. Please be reassured that the maternity team will be reviewing the maternity notes front cover and are supportive of your comments, we hope to be in a position to review and make the changes you have suggested in due course. **** It’s your hospital.
